Why can't we use Biotechnology to kill Mosquitoes?

Actually i was thinking that why cant we just use Biotechnology or genetics to modify a human- safe virus' s genetic set up such that it is host specific only on mosquitoes, therefore getting rid of it? Or find a Virus which affects mosquitoes and rather culture it?
