Do these work to get rid of bugs?

You mean the "Off! Fan"? Oh yeah, they work great, but I *certainly* wouldn't want to be the one breathing that stuff in. I've only ever used one while in Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge, where the mosquitoes are literally banging against the truck windows trying to get in.
